John Burrows #16

John Burrows, known in racing circles and to his fans as Joni B, is consistently one of the best Motorcycle Road Racers in Ireland. John runs his own engineering business near Dungannon and is married to Rachel who has recently given birth to their first child, Jack. Congratulations to you both.

His rise in a very short time has been nothing short of meteoric. Like many road racers John started in Clubman’s Short Circuit in 2002, winning both the 600cc and 1000cc titles in his first year. From 2003 John started to concentrate on road racing and has built up an impressive tally of results including many podium finishes at both national and International level.

In 2006 he has had his most successful year ever finishing 3rd in the Superbike Championship, 3rd in the 600cc championship and 4th in the 250cc championship. This is made all the more impressive as these results were obtained on vastly inferior machinery than that of the top five riders in the series.
Despite his success John is one of the most level headed and nicest guys you could wish to meet.

So what’s the plan for the 2010 road race season?
The Supersport bike I have had for the last couple of seasons has been sold, so I’ve purchased an ex IFS 600 Yamaha as ridden by Jeremy McWilliams last year.

This bike should be as good as anything out there providing I am able to keep the wires tight….!!
We are also in the process of building an ER6 Kawasaki for the Super Twin class, hopefully this will leave us more competitive on top speed than before. And all being well I will be back out on Gerry O'Sullivan's 350 Honda Classic at most of the national races too.

Any plans for the TT?
As most of you may have read elsewhere, I have agreed to ride a Superstock bike at the TT for Tim Martin of Martrain Racing. As you all know I now run my own set up with the aid of personal sponsors, so it was nice to get the call from a leading and respected Irish team. Perhaps I'm not on the scrap heap just yet….!!! Tim has been interested in doing the TT for a couple of years now so he feels this is the perfect way for him to see what it’s all about. Tim is supplying me with a 2010 GSXR 1000 Suzuki so hopefully I can give him a reasonable result.

Armoy Circuit History:
7th - 600cc Super Sport
6th - The Open race
11th - 250cc race
2nd - 650cc Super Twins

What about Armoy 2010?
I have my entry form returned to the club and I’m racing in both the Open and the “Race of legends” with the Suzuki 1000cc, I’ll also be using our new 600cc Yamaha in the Supersport race with the Kawa entered in the 650cc Super Twins. And I’ve entered Gerry’s 350cc Honda in the Classic race so I should be kept busy around the demanding Armoy circuit but I’m looking forward to it. It’s a well run race.
