After travelling from Peebles in Scotland to see my first road race at Armoy i would just like to say that it was a great event and has got me wanting to return next year . I hope your man whose ground we were spectating from at Kennedys Corner is willing to let the public on his land when his house is complete as it was a fantastic place to view the event ,regards Ian

Hi to all at AMRRC well done and thank you for a great day out brilliant racing and a fantastic atmophere. On the subject of pay to enter the course great idea north west take heed road racing needs the money and i for as a genuine road racing fan think the £30 inc programe and parking for 3 adults was well worth it, we will be back next year.all your hard work is appreciated.

Having attended from Scotland 2009 & 2010 it is with great regret that we cannot attend this year what can only be described as an awesome weekend!! All the staff involved put in so much effort every year to ensure the safe & enjoyable Armoy road race & with some of the top names in racing - is only set to get better each year.
good luck all & safe racing for 2011

I was browsing the Interweb, looking for some old TZ info, which led me to your particular corner of Cyberspace. Browsing the site was very enjoyable. It would have been rude of me to leave without putting something in the pot.

Best wishes for the 2011 'Race of Legends'. It is thanks to good folk like you that the event will go ahead, from strength to strength.

All the best,

Martin

Hi All, Please try your very best to keep the August date we have enjoyed for the last 2 years.Rumours suggest a date change for the Armoy race of legends to May if,as is likely,Tandragee drops from the list.My 90yr old father and myself have enjoyed coming over and combining the Ulster with your excellently run event. It has been the best National in both 2009 and 2010.Keep up the great work. And keep the August date please!!!!! Roy

Admin: Hi Roy, The date for 2011 has now been set.
It's Friday 29th (practise) and Saturday 30th July for race day.
There was never any talk of a change to May, there was a wee bit of confusion over the August dates, but we have moved to the July date to allow the Mid-Antrim it's traditional first week in August (6th) followed by the UGP now on the 13th. Hope to see you at Armoy.

I travelled from Ayr in Scotland on a day return with my bike on the ferry, arrived in Armoy and watched the best racing I've seen in years. Bought a programme and had chips and still cost me less than a day at Knockhill.

Crossfans about paying SHOULD STAY AT HOME.

Great days racing and good website, congratulations to all involved.

I THINK THIS CLUB NEEDS TO BE TOLD IT IS ONLY A SMALL RACE. ITS GETTING TO BIG FOR ITS BOOTS.ASKING MONEY TO GET ON THE TRACK,WOT A JOKE. I WILL NOT BE THERE NEXT YEAR

Admin reply: Sorry to hear that, but the cost of running a national race is around £100,000.
Competitors pay an entry fee to entertain us which I personally think is wrong and I also firmly believe that £5.00 to watch this spectacular show is surely a fair price to ensure that road racing stays on the calender.

The Armoy as we know it. Arriving at the Armoy road race timely in the morning one can effortlessly hear the dulcet sounds of cattle, udders ladened with milk, clattering hooves and a farmer who is well used to the nip of a chilled northerly breeze on his veined ruddy cheeks. The sky a canopy of hue complementing the range of leaf burdened beeches and oaks and a lush green carpet where the curlews have come inland gathering for their young. The resonance of the salient farmers stick striking the driven cattle’s backs fades, and the blackbirds and thrushes sing with recognisable glee for a day that seems inconsequential to us however deepens to vermilion before breaking light violates its virgin composure. Unable to resist, the eye captivated by the rolling stubble fields freshly cut and holding their produce go on and on. Without understanding of their beauty and attraction. The horizon to the north cuts with aggressive precision and separates the sea and sky to reveal in the distance seaside towns that can only be unpalatable to such a place.
Nevertheless in moments the panoramic scene surrenders to the seeming chaos and violence of what is known as ‘The Armoy’.

As normality takes refuge the sounds and smells change. People who know nothing of the morning that has passed or care for its tranquil stillness, come booted to stake their claim on a section of earth they will say is theirs for that day. In the din voices rise octaves to be heard as more people reach their destinations. Officials and orange suits seize charge guiding watcher and participants alike to safety. Flamboyant colours cover every hedgerow with motifed sweat shirts and coats all alleging allegiance and loyalty to one team or other. Old-hands familiar with unpredictable weather are waterproofed from head to toe carrying picnic lunches and tea flasks that will nourish for the day, and the anticipation of the immanent race is preceded by a significantly abridged rendition of the national anthem where political persuasions are revealed once again as some remove their hats in apparent respect and others do not. A gladiatorial exhibition of testosterone fuelled rivalry takes charge, swords are raised and unbreakable fighters collide for a coveted victory. Champions are made and lives are extinguished such is the character of it all, and still children play boisterous in worlds distant and remote, dogs bark and mothers nod attentively to over animated husbands who are stretching their ears to hear the echo of a distant tanoy. Then the day is over litter blows abruptly as if angry at being discarded in the evening breeze. Hedgerows trampled and crushed are left to recover from the interlopers who intrude without consideration for where they stand and the curlew unaware returns to their seaside repose. Normality tentatively makes her return; and the deafening sounds of the farmer with his cattle in the morning can be heard loudly once again and the beauty that never leaves can now be reunited with the peace and tranquillity of the place they call Armoy.

The Sport Rocks So Rock The Sport.
